History
The Junior Tamburitzans of Duquesne were officially organized in August 1961 and performed their premier concert in 1962. For consecutive years, the Junior Tamburitzans of Duquesne have diligently preserved the cultures of many Eastern European countries through music, song and dance, utilizing a myriad of instruments and costumes showcased in their annual concert.
In 1987, during their 25th anniversary season, our Tammies made their television debut on Mr. Roger's Neighborhood, presenting a Macedonian set which was aired nationwide on PBS.
The Junior Tamburitzans of Duquesne are affiliated with the CFU Junior Cultural Federation, which provides the opportunity to participate in the annual CFU festival - the highlight of each season.
The parent organization is extremely proud of all its young Tammies whose sustained enthusiasm has made possible many memorable performances throughout the United States and Canada. To each youngster, past and present, who have donned a costume to dance a kolo or play an instrument, to the former members who have been awarded scholarships with the world renowned Duquesne University Tamburitzans / PIFAI Tamburitzans of Pittsburgh, we extend our sincere appreciation and congratulations. It is your dedication, cooperation, and inspiration that will build the stepping stones for future generations of Junior Tamburitzans.
